Open Classes are open to all adults and youth in Ohio. All exhibitors must hold a membership to the Erie County Agricultural Society, a Season Pass to the Erie County Fair or an Erie County Fair wristband. All exhibitors must be registered by 5:00 pm on July 27, 2007. Mail in registrations must be postmarked no later than July 26, 2007. There will be no exceptions to this rule. |

RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE 2007 ERIE COUNTY AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY OPEN CLASS SHOW 1. It is the duty of every exhibitor to acquaint himself with all rules and regulations. 2. BE SURE TO READ: (1) All rules imposed by the Erie County Agricultural Society; (2) All rules imposed by the State of Ohio; (3) All specific instructions under the department in which you wish to enter; (4) the summary of rules on the entry form. 3. Questions which arise will be answered by the department superintendents. 4. The Erie County Fair Board reserves the sole and absolute right to construe its own rules and regulations and to determine arbitrarily on matters and differences in regard thereto, from which there is no appeal. 5. Security and Police Officers are on duty on the grounds during the continuance of the Fair. The Erie County Fair Board is not and will not be responsible for damage, loss, or accident that may occur. Exhibitors are requested to give attention to their items during the Fair. 6. Disrespect by an exhibitor or agent toward officials, or any misrepresentation, in regard to entries in any department either by statements made or facts omitted, will render the entry ineligible to compete, and no premium will be paid. 7. Competition is open to all counties in Ohio. 8. All open class exhibitors must hold a membership ticket, season ticket, or youth wristband. 9. All entries must be made in the name of the owner of the article. 10. Entries should be recorded on forms provided and mailed to the Erie County Agricultural Society, P.O. Box 2436, Sandusky, OH 44870. 11. The closing date of all entries for each department will be 5 p.m., July 27, 2007. 12. All mail in entries in all departments must be postmarked no later than July 26, 2007. There will be no exceptions to this rule. 13. The exhibitor must fill out the entry form completely. This includes designating the department, class and description of the item. The entry form must be signed by the exhibitor. 14. All entries must be recorded with the Fair Secretary before items will be assigned an entry tag. Tags will be handed out on the day of placement. 15. When the entry of an item is recorded in the books of the Secretary, tags will be given a number and class which are to placed on the item. Once the item has been entered, no changes in the entry will be permitted, unless it can be shown that a mistake has been made. 16. Every item for competition must be placed on display on Monday, August 6, 2007 between 5-8 p.m. except for the following divisions: Farm & Garden, Floriculture, and Baked Goods. Items for these departments must be placed on display on Tuesday, August 7, 2007. 17. No exhibits will be removed until officially released. Release time will be from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, August 12, 2007. Not responsible for items after 6 p.m. 18. Exhibitor must provide receipt to remove item from display area. 19. No interference or communications with the judges will be allowed and any person who by letter or otherwise attempts to influence the decision of the judge, shall forfeit any and all premiums which may be or have been awarded and be ruled out of competition. 20. Premiums for all classes are: 1st - $3.00, 2nd - $2.00 and 3rd - $1.00. 21. Premiums must be picked up on Tuesday through Sunday of the fair in the Fair Board Office. 22. Rosettes and ribbons will be awarded at time of judging or may be picked up in the Sr. Fair Board Office. 23. The judges are instructed not to award premiums, unless the items are deemed of worthy merit. 24. No person other than members of the Board, who are not competitors, will be allowed to see the entries, or to have access to the judges books after the awards are made. 25. If there is any question as to the regularity of any entry, or of the right of any item to compete in any given class, the judges shall report the same to the Superintendent of the Department for adjustment. 26. DEPARTMENT 1 FARM & GARDEN Gary Miller, Superintendent RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. Judging will start at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 7, 2007. 2. All items must be placed for display on Tuesday, August 7 between 8-9 a.m. 3. Official release time is Sunday, August 12, from 3-5 p.m. 4. Every item in the exhibit must be raised by the exhibitor. 5. If you have been a dealer or professional in the past or earn 50% of your annual income by such means, you must enter as a Dealer/Professional. 6. No duplicate entries permitted. 7. Plates will be provided by the department. 8. All vegetables must have a stem left on top. 9. Small Vegetable Class - see specimen for display requirements. 10. Large Vegetable Class - see specimen for display requirements. 11. Fruit Class - display 5 items per specimen category. 12. DEPARTMENT 2 FLORICULTURE Sue Cross, Jean Miller, Kathy Faller, Sheri Bauer, Marilyn Hogan & Dick Boyer, Superintendents RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR CLASSES I & II 1. Erie County Care Facility Senior Citizens must bring all items for display on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 between 8-9 a.m. 2. Judging will start at 10:00 a.m. 3. Release time for the Erie County Care Facility Senior Citizens will be on Thursday, August 9, 2007 from 8-10 a.m. 4. Amateurs must bring all items for display on Friday, August 10, 2007 between 8-9 a.m. 5. Judging will start at 10:00 a.m. Friday. 6. Release time for the Amateurs will be on Sunday, August 12, 2007 between 3-5 p.m. 7. Ribbons may be picked up at the Fair Office. 8. See Open Class General Rules and Regulations. 9. All specimen flowers and herbs must be grown by the exhibitor. 10. Exhibitor may enter more than one specimen category. 11. Exhibitor is limited to one entry per specimen category. 12. All specimen must be clean and free of spray materials, disease and insects. 13. Suitable "clear glass" containers - pop or salad dressing bottles - furnished by exhibitor. No colored glass. 14. We reserve the right to re-classify an entry if the item has been mislabeled. 15. Placing will be as follows: Category: 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Honorable Mention Best of Class Best of Show TIPS FOR EXHIBITING SPECIMEN FLOWERS AND PLANTS 1. Read all the Rules carefully. 2. Remove all foliage that would be under water to prevent decay. 3. Groom plants/specimen by removing dead and faded flowers and foliage. Do NOT use plant shine. 4. Check number of stems or blooms needed to qualify in each category. 5. Use a wedge made of wood to hold specimen upright in container. 6. Elements often considered in competition are perfections of flower, color, size and over-all condition of foliage and stem. 7. All arrangements must be the work of the exhibitor. 2. All plants must be in the possession of the exhibitor for more than one month for Class IV. 3. All materials need not be grown by exhibitor for Class III & IV. 4. All specimen must be clean and free of spray materials, disease and insects. 5. Exhibitor may enter more than one class category. 6. No arrangement can compete in more than one class category. 7. Materials used in arrangements must be FRESH flowers, unless otherwise noted. 8. All arrangements must be brought to the fair completed. 9. Any repair work must be done by 9:00 a.m.
CLASS III - FLOWER ARRANGEMENTS 1. Jigsaw Puzzle - Like 2 pieces of a puzzle, either one is not complete without the other. 2. Going To The Park - For the perfect summer picnic, fill a basket with fruit(can be artificial) and fresh flowers. 3. Tea Party - Pour some flowers into a tea cup, make it dainty and set it on it's saucer. 4. For the Birds - Dress a bird feeder or bird house for your feathered friends using a material they can enjoy. 5. The Boot was Made For Walking - A boot is your container now take a walk and fill it with found objects. 6. Welcome to My Home - All dried materials gathered together to make a swag for your front door. 7. A Day At The Beach - Using sand and water create a cool summer arrangement. 8. HOT, HOT, HOT - A clay pot is your container and the hot colors of autumn will warm it up. CLASS WINNER
CLASS IV - PLANTS 1. Herb Garden - Filled with three or more varieties of herbs ready to flavor that meal. 2. Succulent Planter - An interesting table top container with a mixture of succulent plants 3. Hanging Basket - One blooming plant displayed in it's glory. 4. DEPARTMENT 3 BAKED GOODS Martha Lublow, Bernita Schaeffer, Luetta Prout Co-Superintendents RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. Amateurs must bring all items for display on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 between 8-9 a.m. 2. Judging will start at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday 3. Official release time is Sunday, August 12 from 3-5 p.m. 4. All pies, cakes, quick breads, yeast breads and cookies must be made from scratch and prepared by exhibitor. NO BOX CAKE MIXES in Classes II through VI. 5. All cakes must be edible. 6. All Cake frostings and decorations must be edible. 7. All cakes must be displayed on foiled cardboard, not to exceed 1" past cake. No Cake Plates of any kind. 8. All cakes and quick breads must be covered with clear wrap or in clear Ziploc plastic bags. 9. Cakes can be either 8" or 9" round or 9 1/2" x 13 1/2" rectangle. 10. One slice of each cake will be on display for the duration of the fair. 11. All pies must be displayed in clear Ziploc plastic bags. 12. All pies must be 8" or 9", in foil pans only. 13. No cream pies will be permitted. 14. One slice of each pie and a 1/2 loaf of each bread will be on display for the duration of the fair. 15. Five (5) cookies will be displayed on a paper plate & in a clear Ziploc plastic bag. 16. A cookie recipe cannot be entered in more than one cookie category. 17. All paper plates & Ziploc plastic bags will be provided by the department. CLASS I - ENHANCED CAKE MIX (Boxed Mix) Start with a boxed cake mix and embellish the recipe to create a dessert. 1. CLASS VI-COOKIE BASKET CONTEST 1. Just like Little Red Riding Hood, bake your favorite batch of cookies (24 cookies) and place them in a decorated basket to give to your Grandmother. 2. Deliver the basket to the baked goods department on Tuesday, August 7, 2007, between 8-9 A.M. 3. Entries will be judged on the cookie as well as the creativity of the basket. 4. Entries may be picked up between 3-5 P.M. on Sunday, August 12, 2007. 5. Premiums will be: 1st-$10.00; 2nd-$5.00; 3rd-$3.00. BAKED GOODS AUCTION TUESDAY AUGUST 7, 2007 7:15 PM before the King and Queens Contest 1st and 2nd place winners in the Pies Category and Cakes Category will be eligible to auction their baked goods. 25% of the proceeds will go to the exhibitor 75% of the proceeds will go to the Fair Board. These proceeds will be used for the Open Class Show Program.
DEPARTMENT 4 PHOTOGRAPHY Donna Green and Zach Rinkes, Superintendents RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. Judging will start at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 8, 2007. 2. All items must be placed for display on Monday, August 8th, from 5-8 p.m. 3. Official release time is on Sunday, August 12th, from 3-5 p.m. 4. All photography must be the work of the exhibitor. 5. All photography must have been taken within the last three (3) years. 6. If you have been a dealer of professional in the past, or have earned 50% of your annual income by such means, or are currently or previously enrolled in a photography school, you must enter as a Dealer/Professional. All other classes still apply (1-5) but we will have a separate designation for those entries. 7. Photographs may not be entered that have previously won a prize at the Erie County Fair. 8. Each photography exhibit must be no smaller than 5"x 7" and no larger than 16"x 20". 9. Each photograph must be matted with plain mount board (any color). 10. No Xerox copies or copies from any copy machine. 11. The mat (mount board) may not extend larger than 4" beyond the photograph. 12. The mat (mount board) must extend a minimum of 1/2" beyond the photograph to allow for the entry tag and hanging. 13. Exhibits may be stapled through edges of mount board. 14. No more than 2 entries per category in any given class. 15. All exhibits will be hanging for display and judging. 16. The Fair Board or volunteers are not responsible if the exhibit falls from its hanger or glue comes off mat. 17. Photographs exhibited are on public display during operating hours of the building, but will not be supervised at all times. We cannot guarantee the safety of exhibits, but precautions will be taken to protect them. 18. If an exhibit fails to meet requirements, it still may be displayed but will not be able to be considered for premium awards. 19. Framed prints will not be accepted. 20. Entry tags will be affixed to the lower right hand corner of the mat. 21. Because the Fair provides entertainment of a wholesome nature for the entire family, exhibits containing nudes or other questionable subject will not be accepted. The Fair provides entertainment of a wholesome nature for the entire family, exhibits containing nudes or other questionable subject will not be accepted. The superintendent has the right to determine what is acceptable. 9. Each entry in Class I & II shall be no smaller than 5"x7" and no larger than 16"x20". 10. Each entry must be matted with plain mount board (any color). 11. The mat (mount board) may not extend larger than 4" beyond the work. 12. To display, entries must be stapled through the edges of the mount board. 13. Items on stretched canvas may be displayed framed or not, but must adhere to size restrictions.

DEPARTMENT 7 ANTIQUES & COLLECTIONS Roger & Janet Russell, Co-Superintendents RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. Judging will start at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2007. 2. All items must be placed for display on Monday, August 6th, from 5-8 p.m. 3. Official release time is on Sunday, August 12th, from 3-5 p.m. 4. All items must be owned by exhibitor 5. If you have been a dealer or professional in the past or earn 50% of your annual income by such means, you must enter as a Dealer/Professional. 6. Al items to be displayed must be clean. 7. All antiques must be at least 50 years old. 8. One item to be displayed in an "antique class" category. 9. Each antique collection must display five (5) items but no more than twelve (12). 10. No duplicate entries are permitted in a category within a given class. 11. Each collection must display at least five (5) items but no more than twelve (12). 12. No display can take up more than 24" of space. 13. It is suggested that each piece of a collection be marked to assure each exhibitor that his/her full collection is returned.
