2012 Demolition Derby Rules

General Rules

ONE CAR PER ENTRY

 1. All entrants must be at least 18 years of age or older. Any participant under 18 years of age must have a parent sign a release at the Senior Fair Office. All drivers must have a valid driver's license, which is not under suspension.

 2. Any American hardtop sedan, No  Chrysler Imperial, Convertibles, Cars with Chrysler Imperial sub Frames, No Wagons, No Pre 70's Lincolns (No Wedging) 

 3. Proof of ownership must accompany each car entered in the derby.

 4. Cars must be removed from the grounds within 24 hours following the event or the car will be towed away at the owner's expense.

 5. No cars will be permitted in the competition arena before their assigned hear.

 6. The pit area will be open for pre-derby inspection at 10:00 a.m. on the day of the event.

 7. All entrants must be in the pit area by 4:00 p.m.

 8. All decisions by the Derby Officials are final!!

 9. The first heat will start promptly at 6:00 p.m.

10. Pit entry is $20.00 One free pit member for every car entry

11. No entry fees will be returned to entrants found to have an illegal car.

12. The Erie County Agricultural Society reserves the right to accept or reject any or all entries.

13. The Erie County Agricultural Society or any of its members will not be held responsible for injuries or damage to cars, entrants, mechanics or car owners.

14. Prize Money will be announced.

15. All drivers must attend the driver's meeting with the time and location to be announced.

16. No one under 16 years old is allowed in the pit area (picture I.D.). The driver and derby car will be disqualified until the following year if anyone associated with the driver and car is caught in the pit area without a wristband and/or under 16 years of age.

17. No 2-way radios allowed.

18. Only drivers may file a protest. A protest fee of $250.00 (CASH ONLY) will be required before the Derby officials will take further action. If the car being protested is found to be LEGAL, the driver of that car will be able to keep the protest money. If the car being protested is found to be ILLEGAL, the driver of that car will lose all money and finishing positions and the protest money will be returned to the protester.

DRIVING RULES

 1. When a car becomes disabled, the drivers are to remain in their cars, with helmets on.

 2. Any car sitting still, during a heat, for more than 60 seconds will be disqualified.

 3. If one or more wheels of the car go over a barrier, the car will be disqualified.

 4. No driver's door or head-on hits will be allowed. (This will be explained at the driver's meeting.)

5. NO SANDBAGGING!! If an official believes any driver is sandbagging or laying back to gain an advantage, the officials will black flag the car and the derby will be stopped. Then the car will be painted with an orange X.

 6. Any car catching fire or spilling fuel, during a heat, will be reinspected. If the problem is able to be fixed, the car will be allowed back in for the free-for-all.

 7. Drivers MUST wear crash helmets with eye protection.

 8. Drivers MUST wear long sleeved shirts and long pants during their heat. NO shorts allowed.

 9. No hot-rodding in the pit or staging area. Driver will be disqualified.

10. NO ALCOHOL ALLOWED ON THE FAIRGROUNDS OR IN THE PIT AREA. Any driver or crew member found drinking alcohol will disqualify the car and they will be removed from the fairgrounds.

11. Failure of the driver or vehicle to adhere to any of the rules will result in a disqualification.

12. No car shall enter the arena after the green flag and before the checkered flag.

FRAME-SUSPENSION-BUMPERS

 1. Frame seams may NOT be welded. No extra metal may be added to the frame in any way. Frame may be drilled if it is believed it has any added metal. No painting or undercoating on frame or body.

 2. No welding of the leaf springs allowed. Only 4 clamps allowed - 2 in front of axle and 2 behind axle. No tape on the leafs.

 3. No modified shock absorbers.

 4. No tilting of frames.

 5. 2003 and newer cars allowed to run but if front end parts are swapped, you cannot add any extra steel, must be attached in stock style. If ANY STEEL ADDED IT WILL NOT PASS!!!

 6. Absolutely, no bumper reinforcing allowed.

 7. Bumper shocks may be collapsed and welded. Bumper shocks may be welded to the frame and the bumper. This is highly recommended.

 8. Bumper ends must be cut off.

 9. Must use stock bumper brackets if any are used. (Front on Front. Rear on Rear)

10. No trailer hitches

11. A-Arms may be welded or bolted for desired height. Material must not exceed 1/4" thickness and 2" wide. It cannot be used to add any strength to the FRAME AT ALL!!!!

12. 3/8" max. Chain, cable or #9 wire may be BOLTED from frame rail to frame rail behind rear humps.

13. Hump Plates will be allowed, No longer than 24", No Wider than 3" and No thicker than 1/4". They must run straight across and not angled at all. Must have at least 3" space between bottom of hump to the top of plate.

14. Passenger car rear ends only, No 8 lug truck rear ends.

CAR BODY

 1. Driver's door may be reinforced for driver protection. Any driver's door reinforcing will not protrude beyond the driver's door.

2. Doors may be welded, wired or chained. If welded, straps can't be no wider than 4" and no thicker than 1/8".

 A four (4) bar interior cage is highly recommended. This consists of one (1) bar along the dash;  one (1) bar no more than twelve inches (12") behind the driver's seat; and two (2) bars connecting to front and back bars along each door. Bars may be made of no more than four inch (4") OD tubing; and mounting plates for the tubing may not exceed a six inch (6") x six inch (6") square. Do NOT attach any part of this cage to the frame or floor of the car. Roll bars are allowed (4"), they must be welded to the cage bars only not to the floor frame or outside of doors. No cast pipe allowed. NO EXCEPTIONS!!

 4. All glass, lenses, chrome etc. must be removed from the car before entering the fairgrounds.

 5. Removal of the windshield is optional.

 6. Hoods are to remain attached to their hinges.

 7. Hoods may be wired or bolted. If wired you may do so in 6 locations, 2 of them may run to bumper (NOT TO FRAME) If bolted you may bolt in 4 spots, No bigger than 3/4 in diameter and nuts MUST have some kind of handle for quick spin off. One or the other NOT BOTH. 

 8. Deck lids may be wired or welded, if wired you may do so in 6 locations. Only 2 may go to bumper (NOT TO FRAME) if welded, straps can't be any wider than 4" and no thicker than 1/8". If trunk can't be opened, YOU MUST HAVE A 12" DIAMETER HOLE CUT IN DECK LID FOR INSPECTION

9. The trunk and interior of the car must be clean of debris.

10. No weight, of any kind, may be added to the car.

11. Cutting fenders for wheel clearance is allowed. Bolting of fenders to wheel wells will be allowed!! 4 bolts 1/2" in size can be used.

12. Numbers must be painted, as large as possible, on the car roof and both front doors. If we cannot see your number, we cannot score you.

13. Any sharp protruding fins or objects on cars must be removed.

14. Bolting of quarter panel seams is illegal.

15. If windshield is removed from car, a chain or wire must attach from the center front of the roof, to the center top of the firewall for safety.

16. The hoods must have a twelve-inch (12") hole or bigger cut in the middle to allow quick extinguishing of fire.

17. Driver's door must be painted white or outlined in another color if the car is white.

18. No offensive or obscene language will be permitted on the car.

19. All holes in the firewall or floor larger than three inch (3") must be covered. Anything bigger must be covered. No removal of firewall.

20. If Body bolts are changed. No bigger than 5/8" diameter. Washer's no bigger than (3") standard washer thickness. IF YOU REMOVE BODY MOUNTS YOU MUST REPLACE WITH A 1"(INCH) SPACER MAX DIAM. OF 3" BETWEEN BODY AD FRAME, NO WELDING THE SPACERS TO BODY OR FRAME. No body seams can be welded or BOLTED.

21.  No painting or undercoating the inside of cars.

23. A Bar no thicker than 1/4" and no wider than 4" may be run in rear window, must be attached to roof and to speaker deck only. Not to Trunk Lid.

ENGINE - EXHAUST

 1. Engines may be changed from car to car (GM to Ford, Ford to Chrysler, etc.) Engines can be welded or chained in.

 2. DISTRIBUTOR PROTECTORS ALLOWED: They can only be bolted to motor and transmission. They can not be attached or touching to frame or front cage bar. At least 5" from the front bar!!

 3. If the exhaust is routed out of the hood, the exhaust must point straight up.

 4. Transmission coolers may be used inside of the care. They have to mounted behind the driver on the passenger side of the car. If you choose to use ice I suggest to use a leak proof metal container because if we have to stop the heat to see what is leaking out of your car, (gas or water) you will be black flagged.

 5. All cars will have the air cleaner secured to the carburetor.

FUEL SYSTEMS

1. The gas tank must be removed from under the car and secured in the rear seat area with a metal tank no larger than 5 gallons. (NO PLASTIC)

2. Gas tanks must be vented through the car roof and tank must be covered (carpet, floor-mat, etc.)

3. GAS TANKS PROTECTORS ALLOWED (FLOATING) NO WIDER than 24", may touch back seat panel but must not be attached. May NOT run straight back to frame humps. must angle in from back seat cage bar. Cannot be over frame at all!!!

4. Any car spilling gas, during a heat, will be disqualified.

5. Electric fuel pumps will be allowed on cars that used electric fuel pumps as original equipment. Electric fuel pumps must have an on/off switch located on the dash, clearly marked with red or orange paint.

COOLING SYSTEM

1. Radiators must remain in original position. NO REINFORCING OF CORE SUPPORTS.

2. No antifreeze is allowed in the cooling systems. THIS IS A AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFICATION. No reinspection.

3. ALL REFRIGERANTS MUST BE REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLES!!

TIRES

1. Any 15" tire, any ply, double tires are allowed!!.

2. No chains allowed.

3. No studded snow tires allowed

4. No liquid filled tires allowed.

5. The use of tire tubes will be permitted.

6. No screwing tires to rims.

7. The above rules will be strictly enforced.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS

1. Batteries must be remounted in driver's compartment.

2. Batteries must be securely fastened to the floor.

3. Only one battery allowed.

MUST HAVE A ROOF SIGN THIS YEAR!!!!MANDATORY...WELDED OR BOLTED TO CAR, NO MORE THAN 24" LONG!!!

IF IT IS NOT ON THESE RULES DO NOT DO IT... IF YOU COME WITH SOMETHING ON YOUR CAR OR DONE TO YOUR CAR THAT IS NOT IN THESE RULES AND TRY TO SAY "WELL, IT'S NOT IN THE RULES..." YOU WILL TAKE IT OUT OR GO HOME!!!! DON'T FORGET WE HAVE FINAL DECISIONS!!!!!

    

COMPACT TRUCK RULES AND REGULATIONS

1. Any 2-wheel drive mini truck. (NO full size trucks allowed. No Blazers, SUVs, El Caminos, or Stake bed trucks allowed.) If you have a 4x4 truck you must remove one of the drive shafts. If any questions call.

2. No V-8 motors allowed! Just 4 and 6 Cylinder.

3. Remove all chrome and plastic from truck.

4. Remove all glass and flammable materials from inside of truck. No loose debris in cab or box of trucks! (Dashboard removal is optional)

5. For cages follow FULL SIZE CAR RULES..(They are under car body number 2).

6. Must have working brakes!

7. Radiators must stay in stock location, or completely removed.

8. NO Body lifts or Suspension lifts allowed.

9. Batteries must be moved in the passenger compartment. Must be completely covered and secured.

10. The stock gas tank must be removed and relocated in the center of truck bed towards the front of the bed. If electric pump is used, it must have a kill switch and painted orange. It must be covered and secured tightly. NO STOCK TANKS!!!

11. Hoods must have a twelve inch (12") hole cut out.

12. All trailer hitches must be removed.

13. NO STUDS IN TIRES, NO TIRES BIGGER THAN 15". NO SPLIT RIMS.

14. Suspensions may be solid.

15. BUMPERS ARE ALLOWED TO BE WELDED ON. (THIS IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) ANY CAR BUMPER MAY BE USED AS LONG AS STOCK BRACKETS ARE STILL USED. BUMPERS HAVE TO BE CUT DOWN TO WIDTH OF TRUCK! (THAT'S IF A CAR BUMPER IS USED) NO PUSH BARS OR GRILL GUARDS ARE ALLOWED! NO REINFORCING OF THE BUMPER WHAT SO EVER!!!!

16. Welding of frames is NOT allowed.

17. All holes in firewall larger than three inches (3") must be covered!

18. Transmission coolers must stay under hood.

19. Rear ends maybe welded.

20. Factory beds only with no stake beds, or flat beds, or dump beds allowed. Beds may be welded to the cab with three (3) pieces of strap (1/8") thick x three inches (3") x six inches (6").

21. Hoods may be wired or bolted, if wired you may do so in 6 locations, 2 of them may run to bumper (NOT TO FRAME) If bolted you may bolt in 4 spots, no bigger than 3/4 in diameter and nuts MUST have some kind of handle for quick spin off. One or the other NOT BOTH. tailgates MAY BE WELDED SHUT.

 22. Doors maybe welded or chained or wired shut. Driver's door may be reinforced on the inside of truck 1/8" thick metal used if welded and no wider than 3".

23. Body mounts must stay intact. Bolts may be changed to 3/4" bolts only!!! 3" washers may be used.

24. Bar must be welded in center of front window, from firewall to the top of window.

25. You are allowed 6 3/4 in bolts from the bed to the body of the cab.

FULL SIZE TRUCKS

Any 2 wheel drive truck ( No vans, El Caminos or Stake Bed Trucks)  If you have a 4x4 truck you must remove one of the drive shafts. All other rules are in the Erie County Compact Truck Rules except you are allowed to run 8 cylinders and allowed to use 16 inch tires.

COMPACT CARS

1. Compact cars must have no more than a 105" wheel base.

2. No v-8 motors will be allowed in compact cars. Only 4 and 6 cylinder motors permitted.

3. Compact cars are subject to all of the same rules and regulations as the regular cars.

4. Electric fuel pumps must have a clearly marked on/off switch located inside the car!!!!

THESE RULES SUPERSEDE ANY AND ALL RULES PREVIOUSLY USED. RULES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE ACCORDING TO ERIE COUNTY DEMOLITION DERBY COMMITTEE. DECISION OF OFFICIAL JUDGE IS FINAL.

ANY W'S OR NEWER CAR OUTLAW HEAT

1. Weld all seams including all body, frame and bumper seams.

2. Two kickers in front going from dash bar to front of frame. (Cannot protrude past the core support.)

3. Two kickers going from rear seat bar back to top of hump.

4. Kickers from each corner (4 Bars) off the 4 point cage down to frame with a 4x4 plate welded to frame to bar. Kickers can only be maximum of three (3") in diameter.

5. You can run any engine, rear end, bumpers and 15" tires.

6. Leaf conversions allowed. You can either run 10 leafs, no longer than 60" long x 3" wide x 3/8" thick. or 7 leafs no longer than 60" long x 3" x 1/2" thick. All leafs must have at least a 1" stagger and no more than 6 leaf clamps per set no thicker than 1/4" thick and 4" long and 1" wide. No welding or taping of leafs. Shackles can be welded solid, no need for working shackles. Shackles may be boxed in and no bigger than 6" long x 4" wide and 1/4" thick. You must have a 3/4" hole drilled in  side of box for inspection of the staggering.

7. If you do not want to do a leaf conversion, you may weld an arch plate on side of frame. The maximum plate can be 4" wide x 24" long and 1/4" thick. (2 plates per car, 1 on passenger side and 1 on drivers side.)

8. 2- 3/4" all threads through frame and core support for use of hood bolts. Same with the trunk (2).

9. Locked suspension allowed, need no movement.

10. Minimum rear bumper height of 16" from bottom of bumper.

STOCK HEAT CLASS

1. General rules are the same as regular show rules.

2. Same type of cars as regular show.

3. STOCK CHASSIS ONLY!! NO TILTING OR PRE-BENDING OF ANY CARS!!!!!!!

4. FRAMES CAN NOT BE WELDED IN ANY WAY!! NO PAINT OR UNDERCOATING ON FRAMES OR INSIDE OF CARS!!!

5 NO MODIFIED SHOCKS OR SHORT SHOCKING OF SUSPENSION IN ANY WAY!! MUST HAVE BOUNCE OR MOVEMENT!!

6. CARS WITH LEAF SPRINGS MUST HAVE STOCK SPRINGS, NO EXTRA CLAMPS OR CHANGING LEAFS.. NO TAPE OR WELDING ON SPRINGS!!!

7. DRIVERS DOOR CAN BE WELDED AND THE ONLY DOOR TO BE WELDED SHUT WITH 4" OR LESS STRAPS AND 3/8" THICK!!! THIS DOOR HAS TO BE PAINTED WHITE!!!!

8. ALL OTHER DOORS ARE TO BE WIRED OR CHAINED IN (4)FOUR SPOTS.. NONE ARE TO BE AROUND OR THROUGH FRAME IN ANY WAY!!!!

9. CAGE IS THE SAME AS REGULAR SHOW RULES

10. STOCK BUMPERS BOLTED ONLY!!! NO WELDS AT ALL!! YOU MUST HAVE (2)TWO PIECES OF CHAIN BOLTED, NO WELDS TO HOLD BUMPER ON. THEY CAN NOT GO PAST CORE SUPPORT!!! BOLTS MAY BE CHANGED BUT MUST BE STOCK SIZE!!!

11. BUMPER SHOCKS MAY BE COLLAPSED BUT NOT WELDED...BUMPER ENDS HAVE TO BE CUT OFF!!!

12. HOODS MUST BE EITHER CHAINED OR WIRED SHUT.. IF WIRED, YOU CAN USE (6)SIX SPOTS.. BOLTED YOU CAN USE ONLY (4)FOUR.. NONE OF WHICH CAN GO AROUND OR ATTACH TO FRAME...

13. TRUNK LIDS CAN ONLY BE WIRED IN 6 SPOTS...NONE AROUND FRAME MUST BE SHEET METAL TO SHEET METAL!! MUST HAVE A 12" HOLE CUT IN LID AND CAN NOT BE TUCKED OR WEDGED!!

14. MUST HAVE (1)ONE STRAP,NO MORE THAN ONE... FROM FIREWALL TO ROOF IN MIDDLE OF WINDSHIELD OR OFFSET, AS LONG AS IT IS FROM FIREWALL TO ROOF OF CAR!!!

15. IF YOU CHANGE BODY BOLTS THEY MUST BE STOCK SIZE AND MOUNTED SAME AS FACTORY!!!! THEY CAN NOT PASS THROUGH BODY INSIDE OF CAR... MUST KEEP BODY PUCKS IN FROM FACTORY... NO CHANGING OF THESE MOUNTS!!!

16. ENGINES (CHRYSLER TO CHRYSLER, FORD TO FORD, GM TO GM) CAN NOT SWAP...THEY MUST BE MOUNTED THE SAME AS STOCK. NO WELDED MOUNTS OR MOVING OF MOUNTS!!!

17. SHIFTERS HAVE TO STAY STOCK CAN NOT BE MOVED!!!! NO SHIFTERS!!

18. TIRES ANY 15 INCH TIRE 6 PLY OR LOWER RATING ONLY D.O.T. APPROVED!!!!

19. STOCK REAR ENDS... THE GEARS CAN BE WELDED.

20. FIREWALLS CAN BE POUNDED  BACK NOT CUT  IN ANY WAY!!

21.STOCK GAS PEDAL HAS TO BE USED.

22. NO CUTTING OF FENDER WELLS WILL BE PERMITTED, OR BOLTING!!!

23. ALL OTHER RULES ARE THE SAME AS REGULAR SHOW RULES.. NO D/P OR G/P!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. MUST HAVE A ROOF SIGN THIS YEAR!!!! MANDATORY...WELDED OR BOLTED TO CAR, NO MORE THAN 24" LONG!!!!!

REMEMBER THIS IS A STOCK SHOW...WE WANTED FAIR RULES FOR EVERYONE AND AS STOCK AS WE COULD KEEP THEM...
